One day Online Workshop on “Data Analytics” was organised by the Department of Information Technology on 3rd July, 2021. The objective of the workshop was to give first-hand experience about cricket data analysis to students of MAIT. Faculty members of MAIT also participated in the event.
There were two sessions in the event- session 1 from 11 am to 1 pm and session 2 from 3 pm 5 pm.
The first session of the event event started at 11 am with brief inaugural ceremony. Saraswati vandana was played in online mode to pay tributes to the Goddess of knowledge, mother Saraswati. This was followed by inaugural welcome address by the HoD, IT- Prof. (Dr.) M.L. Sharma. In his welcome address the HoD informed the audience about the importance of Data Analytics and machine learning. He also expressed his pleasure over an IT Dept alumnus of 2020 pass out batch being speaker at an event at his alma mater.
After the short inaugural ceremony the first technical session commenced. Mr. Shrey Khetrapal of Sirpi Data Science, Bengaluru and also MAIT Alumnus, 2020 gave a mesmerizing talk. He introduced the fundamentals of the ‘R’ language to the audience. The essentials of R were demonstrated on real data sets. The session was interactive and the questions were taken during the session itself. A comparison with other contemporary languages for the purpose of data analysis was made. The application of R for plotting the data in various types of graphs and charts was discussed at length. The first session ended with question and answer round. There was a session break of two hours.
The second session started at 3 pm. The essential components of the second session talks were the discussions on the IPL cricket data analysis. The ball by ball data sets of crick-info were used for the analysis. The speaker demonstrated how the graphics are used by the big corporate to generate visual effects. The talk ended with questions and answers. The students were interested not only in technical aspects of the talk but also in the career opportunities available to them post graduation. The question and answers round was moderated by Dr. K. C. Tripathi.
Vote of thanks was given by Prof. (Dr.) Amita Goel, Information Technology. The event concluded at 5.00 pm. Dr. K.C. Tripathi, coordinated the proceedings.
