One day Webinar on “Career Planning and Start-ups” was organised by the Department of Information Technology & Department of Information Technology and Engineering on 18th November, 2021. The objective of the workshop was to give inform the students of MAIT about the opportunities they can create for themselves in start-up ventures. The event was organized with a view to promote the MAIT Innovation and Start-up Policy- 2021 (MISP-2021) in line with the NISP-2019 of the MoE.
The event started at 4.30 PM. Saraswati vandana was played in online mode to pay tributes to the Goddess of knowledge mother Saraswati. This was followed by brief address by the Head of the Department, IT Prof. (Dr.) M.L. Sharma. Prof. Sharma welcomed the three speakers who were also alumni of MAIT. He informed the audience that Dr. N K Garg, Founder and Chief Advisor, MATES could not attend the event due to his prior commitments. Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma, Director, MAIT and Prof. (Dr.) S S Deswal, Dean Acads, MAIT also could not make it to the event. They all conveyed their best wishes to the speakers and the organizers.
After the address by the HoD, the speakers took to the dais. The session was organized as a talk show rather than speeches. The speakers interacted with the students impromptu. Mr Sajal Sharma informed the audience, specially the students about the risks he took to reach the current destination. He stressed on the fact that in a start-up, as a founding member there is no job profile associated with a job. He gave a thorough insight into this aspect. Mr Shikhar Singh informed the students of the importance of learning a language other than their native languages. The audience was moved by his vivid description of the corporate culture. Mr Ramneek Singh blended the work culture with the students culture at IIM Shilong, He laid stress on having a far-sighted approach when it comes to choice of career.
After the brief opening remarks by the speakers the session was open for interaction, Dr. K C Tripathi, convener of the event coordinated the questions and answers sessions. In a query raised by a participant on the issue of start-ups the three speakers pointed out the different funding mechanisms available for the students and the pros and cons of each. There were questions ranging from methodology of study for competitive examinations to starting a start-up. The speakers answered all the queries patiently. They gave their profile details for the students to connect with them in future too.
Vote of thanks was given by Dr. K.C. Tripathi, coordinated the proceedings. Mr. Bhaskar Kapoor coordinated the session. Ms Nidhi Sengar and Ms Vasudha Bahl took care of technical issues. The session ended with thanks to the Head of the IT Department. There were more than 400 registrations for the event. E-certificates were issued to all the participants.
