Students of MAIT Rock in Singapore-India Hackathon-2019

Mr. Siddharth Kathuria, IT Final Year Student

I am very excited to announce that I got the opportunity to participate in the Singapore India Hackathon, 2019 to work with some of the brightest minds of both the countries. Me along with my team(Paras Rawat and Prerna Jain, Both from CSE) also won the consolation prize in the hackathon. The hackathon was very unique in its own way because it aims at providing global exposure and collaboration to the selected students of both the countries. 60 students were selected from each country and 20 teams were formed with each team having 3 Indian and 3 Singaporean students. This ensured that the students from both countries made a bond amongst themselves and work together on Real World problems.

The selection procedure for Indian students was very tough as the prerequisite for the students to even apply for the hackathon was that the student must be a winner of the Smart India Hackathon, 2019. The winners of the Smart India Hackathon who applied for the Singapore India Hackathon under went multiple rounds of shortlisting including Online tests and Personal Interviews. After all the rounds, 60 students in total were selected from India to compete in the Hackathon.

The fast-paced hackathon was of 36 hours starting from 26th September, 2019 and was held at IIT Madras. Our beloved Prime Minister, Mr. Modi was also present at the premises to motivate the students for the challenges and to award the prizes to the winning teams.

We were also lucky enough to meet some very inspiring personalities such as the Minister of Human Resource Development - DR. RAMESH POKHRIYAL, Chairman of All India Council For Technical Education - PROF. ANIL SAHASRABUDHE, Minister of State for Human Resource Development - Mr. Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre.

I did make a lot of friends from Singapore because of the Singapore-India Hackathon and learnt a lot along the way. Therefore, I would strongly recommend all of my colleagues to apply for this hackathon's next edition. Lastly, I want to thank the faculty of my college (Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, New Delhi) and especially Dr. Madan Lal Sharma Sir for guiding me and helping me throughout this journey which helped me to achieve all this.
