One day International Webinar on “Digital Infrastructure and Corporate” was organised by the Department of Information Technology on 21st December, 2020. The objective of the webinar was to create awareness among faculty members and students about how the big corporate houses use the state of the art technology towards meeting their objectives. The aim of the webinar was to bridge the gap between industry and academia.

The event started at 5 pm with brief inaugural ceremony. Saraswati vandana was played in online mode to pay tributes to the Goddess of knowledge, mother Saraswati. This was followed by inaugural welcome address by the Director- Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma. In her welcome address the Director informed the audience about the scope that lies ahead regarding collaboration of MAIT with leading corporate like the  Deutsche Bank and Amazon. Students were motivated to do internships in leading corporate houses and come back to the class with greater exposure.

The evening progressed with an address by the Vice Chairman (Academics), Maharaja Agrasen Technical Education Society (MATES), Prof. (Dr.) M.L. Goyal. Prof. Goyal highlighted the importance of technology in day to day life. He recalled how the day to day activities have changed in last 30 years like getting train tickets and banking. The audience was moved with his enlightening yet simple words.

Founder and Chief Advisor, MATES, Delhi and Chancellor, MAU, HP, Dr. Nand Kishore Garg could not attend the event owing to his prior commitments. He conveyed his best wishes and blessings for the grand success of the event.

After the short inaugural ceremony the technical sessions commenced. The first technical session started at the scheduled time 5:25 pm. Dr. K. C. Tripathi, Convener of the event moderated the technical sessions.

Mr. Mridul Mahan, the first guest speaker who joined from Mumbai, discussed the idea of bridging the gap between the industry and academia. The session was interactive and proceeded in the form of discussion. The audience was free to come in and put up queries.  He discussed the evolution of banking and fintech companies. He took us through the arena of cash payments to QR codes. The role of block-chains and APIs were highlighted. He also told some motivating short stories. The audience reciprocated the excitement in the form of questions which were happily answered. Mr. Mridul Mahan emphasized the importance of Hackathons in the career of a student and also of corporate.

Technical session 2 commenced at the scheduled time. The second guest speaker, Mr. Siddharth Singh, joined from Seattle, USA. 

Mr Siddharth Singh took the audience through the entire process of high level to low level design of a corporate project involving millions of end users. The session kept the audience engaged. Mr. Siddharth Singh also responded to students’ queries regarding internships at Amazon and where a graduate student finds place in the entire corporate hierarchy.

The technical session was followed by the ‘vote of thanks’ given by Prof. (Dr.) M.L. Sharma, HoD, Information Technology. The event concluded at 7.30 pm. Ms Shreya Kapoor and Mr Bhaskar Kapoor, both of IT department coordinated the proceedings.

The webinar was conceived and executed with the coordination among various entities. The inspiration behind the event were the chief patrons- Dr. Nand Kishore Garg, Founder and Chief Advisor, MATES, Delhi and Chancellor, MAU, HP, Shri. Vineet Kumar Gupta, Chairman, MATES, Delhi and Shri. S. P. Aggarwal, Executive Chairman, MATES, Delhi. The support and helping hand was provided by our patrons- Prof. (Dr.) M. L. Goyal, Vice Chairman (Academics), MATES, Delhi and Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma Director, MAIT, Delhi. The Chief Advisors to the event- Prof. (Dr.) S. S. Deswal, Dean, MAIT, Delhi and Prof. (Dr.) M. L. Sharma, HOD, IT looked that the event was carried out with established norms of the institute. Prof.(Dr.) Amita Goel, IT Dept. and Dr. K.C.Tripathi, IT Dept. were the conveners.

The event was a great success with over 450 registrations which included faculty members, students and industry personalities across India. The session was conducted on Microsoft teams and live streamed YouTube. The YouTube stream has reached more than 1300 views in two days till the time of writing this report. Certificates have been sent to all attendees of the event

Owing to the success of the event the IT department plans to continue with the webinar series “Digital Infrastructure and Corporate” in future.
