Department of Information Technology organised a six-day Short Term Training Program (STTP) on “Internet of Things (IoT)” from 01/03/2021 to 06/03/ 2021. The program was sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The inaugural session of the program was held on 1st March, 2021. Prof. (Dr.) Pravin Chandra of Guru Gobind Singh IP University was the Guest of Honor and Prof. (Dr.) SRN Reddy, Head, CSE Department, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), Delhi was the “Distinguished Guest” and subject expert on IoT. Dr. Nand Kishor Garg, founder and Chief Advisor of Maharaja Agrasen Technical Education Society presided over the inaugural session. Chairman, MATES, Shri Vineet Kumar Gupta, Executive Chairman, MATES Shri S.P. Aggarwal Director MAIT, Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma, Dean (Academics) Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Deswal, Director General, MAIMS Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Garg, Director, MAIMS Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Gupta and all Heads of the Departments were present as dignitaries on the dais.
The inaugural session commenced with the Sarawati Vandana followed by short welcome ritual of the Guest of Honor Prof. (Dr.) Pravin Chandra and the Distinguished Guest Prof. (Dr.) S.R.N. Reddy. Convener of the event Dr. K.C. Tripathi introduced the audience with entire program of 6 days. Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma addressed the audience in capacity of the chairperson of the steering committee. This was followed by address by patron Shri S.P. Aggarwal. Prof. (Dr.) S.R.N. Reddy, also being expert speaker for technical sessions, introduced the audience to the concepts of IoT. Dr. Nand Kishor Garg expressed his happiness over the organization of the AICTE sponsored event and wished all success to the organizers.
Prof. (Dr.) Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE was present on Day 4 of the event. He highlighted the importance of IoT in today’s era of “smart living”. He pointed out that the event was in line with the vision of the council i.e. to lead the socio-economic development of the society.
The technical sessions commenced from afternoon of 1st March. Prof. (Dr.) S R N Reddy was the speaker at the technical sessions of day 1. The audience was moved with the introductory session.
From day 2 onwards Mr. Umang Kejriwal of Apptronix Technologies was invited as subject expert for delivering hands-on sessions. IoT kits were arranged for the participants for the hands-on sessions. The participants were introduced to the NODE MCU architecture and the pin diagram of it. Later, the participants learnt how the program the controller and use it to control electrical appliances such as fan, tube light and AC etc. The hands-on sessions were very informative and the participants were enthusiastic about each session.
On day 6 of the event, a quiz was organized and certificates were provided to all participants who successfully completed the quiz. At the time of writing this report all relevant technical and financial documents were submitted to the AICTE.
The program was aimed at training the faculty members and industrial personnel from Delhi-NCR institutions on IoT. As many as 80 participants from different academic institutions and industry were provided hands-on training. The participants learnt how to build smart offices and homes by themselves simply by programming the IoT devices and interfacing them with the mobile phones. The participants expressed their satisfaction over the event and hoped that MAIT will continue to organize such events which will benefit the faculty of other academic institutions as well.
This STTP was the first at MAIT, and among first at the national level, to be organized in offline mode since the covid-19 pandemic. Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma congratulated the members of the steering committee Prof. (Dr. ) S.S. Deswal, Dean (Acad.), Prof. (Dr.) M.L. Sharma, HoD, IT, Prof. (Dr.) Namita Gupta, HoD, CSE, Prof. (Dr.) Amita Goel, IT Dept and Dr. K. C. Tripathi, convener of the event for successfully organizing the event. She also congratulated all the faculty and staff members of the IT Department for their support in conducting the program.
